Initial idea

Initial Idea
  • In a group consisting myself, Laurence, Sonika and Minhazur, we brainstormed which genre to pick our music video to be. We also considered the facts that most genre are associated with distinctive types of music videos. There are loads of genre today such as pop, hip hop, grime, rock, alternative rock, Country,ECT.
  • We chose to use pop because of the variety of artist in the pop genre that can give us ideas to develop our music video and we could use Sonika as the main artist because of her similarity in looks with pop artist being slim for example Avril Lavigne, Jessie J etc.

  • Our initial idea was to use Jodie Connor "now or never" because its a catchy song and the video was filmed in the urban street and roof top where we can also film our video. As a group we decided that we wanted our video to be portrayed as a happy, exciting, flashy and sunny video with lots of bright colors in mise en scene.
  • After playing this song again and again we tried to come up with ideas of how we will shoot our video and what vibe will it create. We came to conclusion that this song was quite slow and not as exciting as what we wanted for our music and to represent teens as energetic.
  • It was more a love song which wouldn't fit what music video we wanted to make.
  • our first idea was that the video was going to begin with the medium close up of the pelican crossing turning green indicating the "go" for the music to start and a pan move showing the artist crossing the road at a medium shot slowly by using the slow motion effect to correspond with the paste of the music.
  • The camera is in front of her at close up looking at her directly giving the audience a sense of not knowing where she is going but just focusing on her face at a close up shot.
  • After 30 seconds the camera switches to behind her following her at long shot as she walks by people on the side road and notices couples together walking past her using a point of view shot. This emphasize her being alone.
  • Later on we sat down together in a group to decide if we should carry on with this idea so we all came to a decision that it was too soft and we wanted a more lively music and starting brainstorming songs that makes people want to dance.
  • One the artist we came up with was Rita Ora who is a British pop artist and chose her hit single "hot right now" which was top 5 for a months on MTV after its release. The music video was fast past with a lot of cuts, effects, performance which we thought made it exciting to watch.
